For simplicity of design, Profit Plan supports financial statements ranging only from January 1st, 1970, through December 31st, 2069. All dates within this range are stored internally using the numerical equivalent of a specific day within a four-digit year. Manual date entry is expected to include fully qualified dates containing the month, day, and four-digit year. In general, two-digit years are assumed to belong to the century in which entered, except as noted below. As a matter of convenience, date entries made directly into Profit Plan reports and schedules with a two-digit year are edited or "windowed" using the assumption that a two-digit year of less than 20 belongs in the 21st century. Thus a loan date of December 31, 1999, could be entered in "short date" format as 12/31/99, and the date December 31st, 2000, can be entered as 12/31/00. However, "short dates" after December 31, 2019, must include all four year digits. For example, January 1, 2020, must be entered as 1/1/2020, rather than 1/1/20.
Profit Plan v2.21 and earlier editions utilized a Windows operating system based date manipulation function that stripped the century digits from the date internally. While this was resolved in early 1999 with Profit Plan v2.22, it is highly likely that other software applications may have relied upon this function as well. Fortunately a very simple solution is available. Prior to January 1st, 2000, set your Windows system default "short date" to include the century digits as well as the decimal years. This means, for example, that the default "short date" display for January 1st, 2000, would be 1/1/2000 rather than 1/1/00. To adjust Windows 3.1+ or Windows NT 3.5, open the International Settings icon within the Main program group of the Windows Program Manger. Select the Change button in the Date Format panel and insure that the Century (1990 vs 90) option box is checked. To adjust Windows 95 or Windows 98, open the Control Panel from the Settings selection on the Start menu. Double-click the Regional Settings icon and select the Date tab. Insure M/d/yyyy (or equivalent) has been selected from the Short date style drop-down list in the Short Date panel, rather than M/d/yy. Security Development Corporation, December, 1999 |
