Export new Profit Plan budgets to QuickBooks. This facilitates mid-year monitoring of variances from directly within QuickBooks.
QuickBooks "class" data can be automatically added to the income statement section of the model's chart of accounts and import financial data by class. Profit Plan treats those classes as though they were well structured sub-accounts within QuickBooks. (
If the QB classes actually are used consistently in the firm's accounting, this can add the ability to plan by department, product line, etc.)
We have added the ability to monitor changes in the QuickBooks chart of accounts, after the initial model creation, to add an additional layer of management oversight to the bookkeeping process.
We added the ability to compare multiple budget models within the same window, to see the impact of new projects, changed assumptions and even recent actual results vs the results expected in earlier models
Profit Plan v2010 will import financial data by account number from almost any accounting system that can produce a disk version of a standard trial balance. (If not, copy/paste is a viable alternative.)
A simple cross-horizon comparison is now available to show any differences between "Views" in a model's historical perspectives or forecast assumptions. This special form computes period-to-date results for each horizon in the model (Annual, Monthly, Quarterly, and/or Semi-annual) and displays them side-by-side for the equivalent ending period dates.
We have added a Year-to-Year Performance report, for those of our clients who report that way to their managementor board of directors. This report displays the results for any view existing in the model with the same period in the prior year, together with their variances from the prior year's results.
We have added the ability to import/export via Profit Plan's Worksheet tab using a simple "space" delimited text file structure. This has proven useful in communicating with some accounting systems that will "print to disk" but only with standard blank spacing, rather than tab characters or in a comma-delimited format.
We now provide the ability to "lock" budgets, so that they will remain static even when the horizon is being rolled forward and new "real" historical data would normally automatically extend these results into a revised forecast. (This capability can be used to create in a special version of the model, so that the original budget in multiple models can be compared on-screen with their dynamically updated results.)
An additional sample model has been added to demonstrate how one might structure a model's chart of accounts to do profitability analysis by division/department. (The BizPlan document included in that model should be helpful in discovering how to use Profit Plan's Company Profile to control departmental reporting.) QuickBooks users can also use the Company Profile, together with imported classes, to create "departmental" views based upon those classes..
Many, many other minor and perhaps less obvious features and enhancements have been made to help you along the way. Hopefully, messages are more clear, some options now more obvious, etc. But we won't bore you with the details.
For those upgrading from editions preceding Profit Plan v2007, we have included a copy of Whats new in Profit Plan v2007 as an introduction to those many features added in 2007 that may also be new to you now.
All in all, we are sure you will find Profit Plan v2010 a great tool for in-depth management of your Vision of Tomorrow!
Enjoy!
